There aren't a lot of things out there that I would consider spooky. Jim Jones audio. New Zealand. Tom Selleck and Tony Danza's secret love child. These things, as terrifying as they are, don't even come close to creeping me out as much as Fight Night Round 4's character creation tools. Why? Hit the jump and see how damned much my boxer looks like me.
So what's in FNR4 that creates this uncanny resemblance? USB Camera support that doesn't just photograph your face and put the skin on a pre-existing character model. I just broke out my PSEye, snapped a front shot and a side shot, and then mapped key points so that the game could recreate the shape of my face shot for shot.
At first I felt a little let down -- "this character doesn't look anything like me!" That's because the camera only captured the shape of my face and not any of the details on it. You're creating a canvas to paint your face on, and with the tools they offer you'd have a hard time not coming up with a spitting image.
My spooky doppelganger went well beyond face similarities. Body type, chest hair, posturing -- it's all me. Once I got into selecting my stances I was even able to give my boxer the same shitty slouch that I've had all of my adult life.
Have any of you ever had moments of creeped out clone recognition thanks to a character creation tool? I've always been satisfied with how my Live Avatar and Mii look, but this FNR4 dude spooks me the fuck out.
