When most of you had most likely all but written off the Wii, especially with some giant early 2010 releases still coming for the 360 and PS3, Nintendo made some incredible announcements recently at their North American media summit.
I'm a gamer, always have been. Problem is for a large number of years that's really just consisted of the video variety. That's a huge mistake on my part, to not enjoy the video game's analog brethren... the board game. There’s actually a vibrant and intense board game world out there that’s been pushed to the sidelines by game players such as ourselves for too long. In this column I'll be diving into this world, looking at games that hopefully you'd like to try out for yourself.
Out of the Box Publishing is quickly becoming one of my favorite game companies. They were the original publisher of Apples to Apples, and have a fantastic current lineup including Cloud 9 and Word on the Street that we've reviewed here. Well up next is a set of 3 card games that came out in late 2009 that share a similar play style but each are different enough that getting them all won't feel redundant. They're also dirt cheap and come in a little tin to carry them around. So it makes sense to kind of lump them in together in one edition of the Analog Games Corner. Away we go!
It’s Oscar season! Buzz words like ‘nominations,’ ‘critical,’ and ‘performance of a lifetime’ are most likely finding your ears. With the big awards airing on March 7, there’s not much time left to catch up on the films you missed.
But what if your Netflix queue is full and the cineplex is sold out? How will you know what to root for? Well, TheBBPS has again come to your rescue with our Annual Video Game Guide To The Oscars. Why read a book when you can watch a movie, and why watch a movie when you can play a game? With new voting rules in place at the Academy, there are now ten films nominated for Best Picture, so let's see how each of those compare to some similar video game counterparts.
Can't speak for everyone else around here, but Olympic fever always gets a pretty good grip on me... especially the Winter Games. I'm not one for typically watching sports in any way, shape or form but there's something quite enjoyable about the Olympics. Especially the curling. Yes, I'm serious.
As an American I usually get some strange looks when I mention I'm a curling fan, which I both am used to and don't give a shit about. As I said to a friend just the other day I'll take the precision and strategy of curling over the violence and egos of most major sports any day. So what does any of that have to do with either video games or this week's bitcast? Nothing. Not a thing. Just understand however.... curling? It rocks!
Nintendo's Wiimote uses Bluetooth to talk to your Wii. Using non-proprietary technology means homebrewers can get the Wiimote to do what Nintendon't. One of the best programs to make use of the white wand in a musical way is OSCulator for OS X.
OSCulator is a very flexible app; it's compatible with some of the best and most widely used DAWs like Live (used in both videos) and Logic, and can be manipulated by several different forms of makeshift controllers such as Wacom tablets, the iPhone, the Wii balance board, a keyboard and mouse, and of course, the Wiimote. As far as the Wiimote goes, you can point it around on X and Y axes to activate different notes or effects, much like a Kaoss Pad. Just make sure you've got the remote's rubber case on so that you don't end up with a cracked iMac screen.
This gorgeous movie poster by Brandon Schaefer is just my cup of tea. Minimalist, clean and simple, with a bit of inside joke for good measure. If you've seen The Wizard, you will definitely get a rush of nostalgia upon seeing this. I would definitely hang this on my wall, proudly.
If you haven't seen The Wizard, I revoke your nerd card. Turn your Memory Paks and glasses in at the desk on your way out. Once you do see The Wizard, we maybe will consider letting you back in.

Street Fighter III characters, Dudley, Ibuki, and Makoto have been officially announced for Super Street Fighter IV. But what about the face of SFIII, Alex? Why add some SFIII characters, but not the fan favorite? As excited as I am for the three new characters, I'm sorely disappointed by the lack of Alex (and Q for that matter.)
Any characters in SSFIV you were expecting, but weren't announced? Any of the new announcements surprise and/or excite you? Let us know in the comments!
Attract Mode is a videogame culture shop (their words, not mine). They sell everything from clothes, to ice trays, to chiptune CDs. One designer who contributes to the site's own products is Harvey James, and his Game Girl shirt is especially eye-catching. As the shirt's description says, "portable games and headphones are all you need for an afternoon of happiness."
Good thing we pay for Xbox live huh? Otherwise we might miss out on all these GAME RELATED STORIES. Oh wait, this has nothing to do with anything. It does however, offer up this awesome headline.
